Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), to be partially open in the monsoon. Even as the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has said ‘no’ to monsoon tourism, it is learnt that there are moves to keep the popular Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) partially open.
Monsoon Safari began from July 9 in Maharashtra famous Tadoba National Park. According to a report, Tadoba monsoon safari will open only for buffer Zone and only spot booking available. Online booking is not open for monsoon safari, tourist can book there safari on safari entry gate.
According to sources, the monsoon session of the legislature in Nagpur from July 9- 30 Septmber, seems to have triggered the immediate move as many VIPs and their families make a beeline for wildlife safaris. Principal chief conservator of forest (wildlife) A.K.Mishra was not available for comments. Field director Mukul Trivedi refused to comment saying the matter is sub judice.
The reserve has a 20 km tar road connectivity from Mohurli to Todoba lake . There is always demand from tourists to keep the park open and the park partially remained open during monsoon.
However, from 2017 the park was closed for three months (July-September) after the NTCA, the statutory body governing tiger reserves, directed it to stop monsoon tourism while approving its tiger conservation plan which is the road map for tiger reserves.
The idea behind allowing partial tourism was that a ST bus operates between Chimur-Chandrapur through Tadoba for villagers. The park should make some arrangement to ferry locals , which is still inside the reserve, said Suresh Chopna, a member of MoEFCC’s regional environment committee.
Sarosh Lodhi, a regular visitor to Todoba, feels the reserve should be kept open during monsoon as it will bring reve/nue for the locals.
